This work is written in Japanese and reads, “I called your name without speaking it aloud.”
The calligraphy is created using "mimizu", a distinctive calligraphic method developed by Taisan Tanaka.
In Japanese culture, love is rarely expressed through direct words such as “I love you.” Instead, feelings are often conveyed indirectly, through suggestion and quiet emotion. This phrase expresses that sensibility: I love you deeply, but saying it aloud feels too intimate or embarrassing—so instead, I carry you constantly in my thoughts, silently writing your name in my heart.
Some people choose to tattoo the name of a loved one onto their body. This work represents an invisible version of that act. The beloved’s name is not etched onto the skin, but held within the heart—an unseen, permanent tattoo of love and devotion.
